Ultimately, I ended up doing just as Joe Was pointed out above - wiping, reformatting and reinstalling everything anew and it did what we needed. I found some great info on I downloaded the 'fix' and cleansed the pc and files but - as in your case - the pc was still performing oddly and erratically – especially with Excel and Access. I went through such an incident at work about a year ago with a co-worker's pc. I am thinking that there is something in my old "My Documents" dir that is causing this problem. I then executed EXCEL and it came up without a problem. I renamed my directory "My Documents" to "$My Documents" and created an empty "My Documents" dir.

That is a last resort but I have no dought that with all the crap I have on this system, that a restore wouldn't speed it up a mite! Thanks. Of course, you might just be right but I will see if there are some more ideas out there before I do that. Windows 2K has some big updates to download again. So I say bite the dog and wipe your system.

Looking back I think it was the best thing I could have done. After a few years of bad down-loads and poor software, the system was getting quirky. Then did a re-format and re-install.Īs much work and pain it was, my system is faster and does not lock-up at all now, like it did. I lost all the files too large to put on floppies, but saved most of my work and data files. I could not access my burner, but with system tools could get to my hard-drive. I was a bit iffie about it considering it dealt with someone using Windows XP, but I was able to pull.

Not too long ago I down-loaded a new driver from microsoft for my hard drive that was incompatable with my mother-board. But concerning my problem, originally, I thought I was dealing with the w32. Then reinstall your operating system and software, on to your clean system. Office intergrates into windows and becomes part of your operating system.Īs such, to be safe I would recomend the dredded, pull all your data files onto disk and reformat your hard drive. Office uses startup settings that allow it to be open all the time without you knowing it. Many of todays viruses use internet handles, like bridges to Outlook. In windows files and setting are stored all over the system.
